The Australian Architecture Foundation has announced the availability of its first major publication, 'Under the Edge', a significant new book which documents for the first time the complete work of leading Australian Architect and teacher, Peter Stutchbury. The book, recently launched at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, celebrates the quintessential Australian design that is now so sought after internationally. The reader is taken on a journey of discovery through many exquisite buildings and, through Stutchburys own words and images the underpinnings of his philosophy and practice. Through the eyes of leading architectural photographer, Michael Nicholson, the reader is presented with a rich showcase of ideas and inspiration, together with critical essays on Stutchburys work by his good friends Richard Leplastrier and Professor Brit Andresen, and by Ingerid Helsing Almaas, Editor of Arkitektur N, the Norwegian Architectural Review.
Renowned both in Australia and internationally, Peter Stutchburys architecture speaks for itself and is well recognised bythe profession in Australia through his numerous awards. He has also attracted international attention and acclaim through publication in respected journals, his success in the 2008 International Living Steel Competition for extreme climate housing in Cherepovets, Russia, and his recent completion of the 'Wall House in Japan for renowned fashion designer Issey Miyake.
The book incorporates a collection of 'Projects in Brief that cover seminal works of his early practice plus fourteen major recent 'Projects in Detail are presented, none of which have been previously published. In this latter section, those looking to understand what constitutes inspirational architectural creativity, planning and design are supplied with an abundance of explanatory texts, sketches and plans to supplement the all new photography. For those interested in further information on the architect, there is also an illustrated chronology of all his works, together with a section on his working studio.
